Polymer nano-formulates with active molecules anchored or confined to nanostructures or matrices

The research activity concerns the development and chemical structural characterization of new sustainable and safety materials designed to avoid migration of stabilizers, nanofillers and additives during their life cycle. The immobilization and/or confination of nanoparticles as well as of the functional molecules to polymeric matrix are considered as winning strategies to avoid migration of molecules potentially harmful to the health and environment. Another strategy adopted for this purpose is the grafting and/or non covalent interaction of additives to the nanostructures. In the case of stabilizers, this strategy also allows an enhanced thermal and photo stability of developed nanocomposite materials during processing, use and recycling. image: Polymer nano-formulates In particular, the research is focused on different polymeric matrices (polyolefins, polyesters, polyamides), loaded mainly with carbon nanotubes (CNT) covalently and non-covalently modified with synthetic and natural stabilizers. The activity includes also durability studies and quantification of active molecules attached and/or released from nanocomposite after processing. Chemical characterization of formulated nanomaterials is carried out by using traditional (GCMS, Py/GCMS) and advanced spectrometric (MALDI MS, ESI MS and DPMS) analysis as well as spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR, UV, NMR).
